Getting wireless to work in HP Mini 110 with Ubuntu 10.10

In my last post I had mention about wireless problem in my netbook. Today, due to my assignment, I really need to get my wireless working. So, I google the problems and comeout with few solution. I tried the solution, and hell yeah, its work. wooohooo.

First of all, check the wireless card. My wireless card is Ralink RT3090. And ubuntu is using rt2800 for the wireless card, of course the wireless will not work, because it is not using the correct driver.

Now, the first step is to add the repository of the driver:

Open the terminal and type:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:markus-tisoft/rt3090
Do not update yet, now close the terminal and go to System > Administration > Software Sources

Change the Maverick to Lucid,

edit the last line to ubuntu lucid instead of ubuntu maverick

change the distribution to lucid instead of maverick, then click ok
The software sources will now updating itself. Let it be, then it will close by itself when the update process already finish.

Now, open the terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update

After the update finished, type:

sudo apt-get install rt3090-dkms

You might think the wireless now, will work after you have reboot the netbook, but sorry to say, NO, its not working yet, because the rt2800 driver is still working. We need to blacklist the rt2800 driver in order for the rt3090 driver to work properly.

Assuming you haven't close your terminal yet, type the following into the terminal:

gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

This command will open the blacklist.conf file and you need to add the following into the file:

#Blacklist RaLink drivers
blacklist rt2800pci
blacklist rt2800lib
blacklist rt2x00usb
blacklist rt2x00pci
blacklist rt2x00lib

Then save the file and close it.

Now, restart your netbook and try to connect to the wireless. It should be working now(I hope).
This solution is taken from here and here.

That all for today. I'm super happy since my ubuntu netbook can now connect to the wireless.

#edit 30/12/10 ; please leave comment if the solution is not working or applicable, and also if you guys have some times to spare, share you experience on linux with me.

Fuck The ISP

Today, I'm having my second java labtest. We can take the labtest anywhere provided there is internet. I choose to take the labtest at my friends home with broadband connection. Not that my own house didn't have internet connection, it just that, I need some peaceful and calming place to do the labtest. My house is not exactly the ideal place.
I actually manage to answer the half of the question. and during the final moment, my friend actually send me her answer. Yet, due to bad internet service/connection, I didn't manage to send it on time. Which is before 10.10 a.m.
I feel like burning down the building right now. Yeah, because the labtest carry out 10 marks. I'm not doing very good in Java, and the lecturer even say, there is no re-test.

I'm so doomed. How I wish I can actually channel out my anger rite now. FxxK U my "dear" ISP.

Things I Hate and Love 'bout Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition #1

Since I've become obsessed with Linux, I've try to install Linux in every computer that I own. My HP Pavilion DV2 is the only that still, ermm, should I say 'virgin', because I've never made any changes to the OS ever  since I bought it last year. My Compaq laptop had been loaded with Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio and Fedora (This holiday, I'm gonna try to dual boot it with Windows 7). My new netbook,HP Mini 210, have been included into list as I've manage to dual boot the pre-loaded Windows 7 starter with Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition.
There's few thing that I like and dislike about the dual-boot thingy. I'll post it next time.

Here the first thing that I noticed in Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Ed. that I actually like:

The super cool workspaces

And here comes the BAD things that I just have noticed:

the error occurred while updating (seriously, 'something wicked happened' ) ROFL

Ok, wassup with this error, well, because I'm connecting to the internet using wireless. Ubuntu 10.10 has issue with wireless ( i guess), and don't ask me to install the driver, because I already check it, and there is no driver that I need to install. The internet actually work fine using wired connection. I hope the Ubuntu team will solve this issue A.S.A.P, cuz, I actually really really love my Ubuntu.

aMSN: Windows Live Messenger clone in Linux

Since I'm stuck on Fedora due to my works, I did miss few things in Windows.  One of those things is Windows Live Messenger. Luckily, other Linux users might have felt it too(and develop wlm for linux), and here is the aMSN, Linux clone of Windows Live Messenger.

Here is the screen caps of aMSN.

The original Windows Live Messenger that I'm really used to.

By the end of the day, the most important thing is that we're still connected no matter what OS we're using, when ever and where ever we are.
Thanks to the internet....^_^

Things I love about Fedora #1

Its raining today. Yeah its raining man. I'm thankful for it.
Why it has to do with Fedora??

well, take a look at this screen cap of my Fedora desktop. I have my own weather forecast right on my desktop. It is updated on real time as well. GNOME and FEDORA ftw...I'll try to figure out how to install this apps on Ubuntu.

Gambas Almost Means Basic

My last entry is about my Workshop II and stuff related. Today's entry is about Gambas, programming language that I have stupidly chosen for my Workshop II project. Gambas is similar to Visual Basic in certain way. But it have its own syntax in its own way. The learning curve is not so steep. The downside of it is that it is lacking community support, because Gambas is quite new in programming world. I can only have myself to blame for daringly taking Gambas as the programming language for my Workshop II. Curiosity manage to kill this cat this time.
Currently I'm using Fedora 13 for developing the system. Front-ended by Gambas version 1.0.19 and back-ended by Postgresql 8.4. I'll talk more about Postgresql in my next post. Here I included some screenshot of Gambas IDE.

Gambas IDE startpage

The Gambas IDE

I only manage to find only one reference material for Gambas.Which is this: A Beginner's Guide to Gambas: Programming. There are more actually, but this is the one I'm using right now.
I can get the e-book in the internet. But it is in protected mood. I need to strain my eyes to actually read the tutorial from my laptop screen. Pity my beautiful eyes. TT_TT..

Those who are interested in Gambas can find much more information here. To Windows users, sorry to say that Gambas is only available in Linux.

If i manage to make an application from Gambas, I'll post it soon.

Sorry for my random sentences. I have problem in sequence of event. I tend to write what ever is on my mind at the moment.

Workshop II and me....

It's been a long time since I've last written in this blog, I guess, last time is during the exam weeks of last semester. Well, now its nearly towards the end of this semester. And, OMG, i just can't believe it, I'm in my 3rd year already. Next semester will be my final semester in university, then next is practical and DAHM, real world. I guess need sometime to actually accept the fact that I'll be finishing my study soon.

Regarding the title of this post, workshop 2 is pre-requirement for our faculty before we can proceed to our final year project. In this workshop, we need to work in group of 4 student to develop a system which have 4 different DBMS. And to make the matter worse, we need to use 2 OS environment which make life feel like hell.
For my part, I've choosen PostgreSQL as my DBMS and Linux Ubuntu as my OS.
All I can say is, now I can write a book for beginner in Ubuntu with faulty hardware.

My Ubuntu keep on crashing for the whole of the semester. I keep formatting the laptop, till last week. When I'm finally realize that I couldn't keep on formatting the laptop and re-do my work. And after whopping out RM 72. I have brand new 1 GB RAM and stable Ubuntu (& Fedora) laptop.

Now, I'm procrastinating on my works because I actually have fed up doing all the assignment and feel like saying f**k off to all of them.

Right now I need to refresh my self before continuing my works on the workshop II.

Till next time... ( which is probably soon)

Boring + Procrastination Mood = YouTube

Last night, me and cik Enna are hanging out after dinner. We got nothing to do (yeah i know we need to study, but forget about that), so we watch YouTube. Enna start searching for sand arts then we get tired of the "seem like forever" video buffering. So, I suggest her to watch KevJumba's videos. He's one of the top YouTube personality. I stumble across his videos about 2 years ago. Then again I seldom go to YouTube to watch video like most people does. Why? Because I prefer watching High Quality Videos. Sometimes I even look down on those people who watch low quality videos. I was like, puhh-leezz. Maybe again because I like to screen capture my favorite videos and make wallpaper or gif from it explain my needs for high quality video. Or I'm just being a snob. Thats all and here I provide links to my Favorite YouTube channel.

Exam, Been sitting for it like Nth times, Still........

I'm on my second year in university, going to third and my final year next semester. Yet, I've never really prepare for my exam. I've tried the other day, and the outcome? well, i slept after like ermmm, second chapter of the book that i'm revising. Its seem that all academic book are like lullaby to me...LOL. Surprisingly, I'll stay awake all night to read novels and surf the net. How I wish all of the exam is about life and philosophy. I'm sure I can get it A+, because the subject is so damn abstract, there is no right or wrong..there are only grammar mistakes that i need to be careful not to omit. Here I include some of stuff that I use and acquired during studying time...

As you guys can see, I studied only a few pieces of papers. I'm kinda cursed when it comes to books with number of pages exceeding 250 pages. I will (for sure) fell asleep by the third chapter. So, the solution, I'll be facebooking or tweeting while studying. And if studying getting on my nerve, I'll read novel or some books on Scribd.

Last but not least, guess what? my grades is still OK. Because I sleep with books as my pillow. There will be transfer process of information from the books to my brain during sleep.

Good Luck to me and also to my friends who are taking exam....

Turning 20

Last week I've turned 20. Yeah, 20...I need to accept the fact that I'm "not a girl, not yet a woman". Turning 20 mean a lot to me because a lot of things have happen and thats make me much more mature, wiser and ermm, prettier. I have learn not to completely trust other peoples, guard myself more and learn to accept the fact that all people in the world are schemers  ( that including myself). Enough of my so damn emotional ranting and move to my birthday celebration. I'll just explain it with pictures....(pictures speak thousand words)....

I ate mee sua a.k.a longevity mee (correct me if I'm wrong) for my dinner...Yummy...(^_^)

This year (2010) i don't have full cake coz lack of budget and yeah, lack of friends that make it to my list this year. All of them have fail miserably...

what more can i say..its my birthday...

mocha; a MUST have for coffee addict like me...

It's been a great and fun birthday celebration for me....
Thanks to Enna and Baitie....Muaksssss

Spotted : U Know Yunho in LA

I'm doing my routine check on allkpop, and guess what I found; Yunho is in LA. But that is not the main point here. I want to talk about his headphones. He is wearing(?) mix-style headphones. It is exactly the same as my friend's headphones that I have to triple check it
Check This Out!! (credit to whoever own this picture)

Now, let's take a look at my friend's headphones. I just took the pictures of it.

and here is mine...

Mine is pink with skull pattern..(^-^)

I was like, OMFG when I saw Yunho's pictures with the headphones. I was thinking, 'Hey, that headphones looks familiar'. Then it hit me that the headphones resembles my friend's headphones.
The headphones is actually an old news. It was popular back 3 - 4 years ago. If Mega-Idol like Yunho being seen wearing the headphones in the public, it might get back into the fashion trend.
Now I want to talk about the headphones price, it is super-freaking expensive in YESASIA which is about MYR 169.00. I bought mine only for MYR 39.00. See the price difference here. I don't understand why YESASIA have to sell it at sky-rocketing price. Buying online should be cheaper.
Enough with the price, now, regarding the sound quality; it is super good, great bass and clear sound. I don't know how describe the sound, the main point is, it sounds great. I recommend it for (errmmm) TVXQ fans and fashionista.

UPDATED:
I do some research, and you guys can buy it here japan hot new brand MIX-STYLE fashion black and white star headphones (for U Know's headphones).

Splurge Of The Day : The Body Shop's Strawberry Bath & Bloom + Strawberry Perfume Oil

It begin with my simple intention of going out just to grab a bite at McDonalds and have a cuppa of Cappucino at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at Jaya Jusco ( the "old" Jusco according to Malacca's people). It turn out to be my biggest spendings of the week. I can't believe that I've just spend MYR 160 for the Strawberry Bath set and the Strawberry perfume oil.
The Strawberry Shower Set (one thing is missing here)

The Strawberry Perfume Oil

Hell yeah I spend MYR 160 for those stuffs. Damhn it. I must promise to myself to use it and not to keep it in my locker.
As for the perfume, I've tried it after shower, and I smell sweet and fruity. I just lurve the scent. So it recommended for people who don't really care of smelling like fruit and sweet. Don't worry, so far no ants has yet to crawl on my body even though I'm sweet(LOL).
I'll review on the shower cream and the body butter after I try them (I need to finish my current my shower cream first).

Introduction To My Blog...

Of Mocha, Arts and Mixed Identity is the name I decided for my 5th(really?) blog that i ever created. I hope I can update this blog of mine more often than my other abandoned blogs.
As for the name that I have chosen, well, mocha is my favorite drinks, arts is my latest interest and yeah, I have identity crisis in some point of my life. I'm still trying to find the real, pure and true myself in each day of my life.
